This guide addresses the need to rethink the planning, design, and management of land transport infrastructures by incorporating a gender perspective.

Traditionally, infrastructure has focused on efficiency and vehicular mobility, often neglecting the needs of marginalized groups such as women, the elderly, children, and people with disabilities. This has resulted in a lack of accessible and safe public spaces. The guide aims to offer concrete solutions to make infrastructures more inclusive, responding to the diverse needs of all citizens.

The core of the guide is the development of nine key criteria for intervention, which future planners and designers should consider when

adapting, designing, or executing infrastructure projects. These criteria include proximity, vitality, diversity, autonomy, perceived safety, comfort, and participation, ensuring infrastructures are accessible, safe, and

functional for everyone.

The guide is structured with practical, illustrated examples for different types of public infrastructure (railway stations, roads and highways, service and rest areas, parking facilities, urban traffic calming, underground infrastructure or infrastructure in new developments) providing a clear framework for creating inclusive, equitable spaces.
